   A lot of people don't know the rules of golf and how some of you can benefit from this such as the red stake shown in the diagram. The red stake indicates that it is a lateral water hazard which means in your ball goes into the water you don't have to take one where you took the previous shot from you are aloud to take a drop from the nearest point of entry, you cant move it sideways but you can go back as far as you would like which means you gain more yardage so you wont loose to many strokes.

The white stake is Out Of Bounds (OB) which means if your ball has gone beyond this point it is officially out of play and you will have to hit again, it is not like the red stakes where you can take a drop from the point of entry, you have to go back to the to where you took the previous shot.

The staked tree rule is one of the best ruling to benefit a player, if you ball lands near a tree that is tied to a stake in the ground and the tree interferes with your swing which means hitting a leaf or branch. You are aloud to have a two club length drop, so you get your biggest club your driver, mark two club lengths to the side and back, this is the zone you can drop the ball into, if it bounces and goes past your marker twice, you are aloud to place the ball!!!    



The Golf Ball

The golf ball is the most important item you need to play a round, some players may only need 1 to play a round while others will need more then 6!!! Golf balls vary now a days to what kind of stats the player need from a ball that spins a lot or a ball that doesn't spin a lot but the golfer can have better control over the shape of the ball flight.  

There are loads of brands that supply golf balls but each brand has more then just 1 type of ball, they have over 4 types. The top 5 brands for golf balls are Titleist, Callaway, Nike, TaylorMade and Bridgestone. 

Today the Number one ball is the Titleist Pro V1 Which costs 60 euro for 12 golf balls. This is very expensive for only 12 golf balls which you could buy 12 of any other brand for as little as 12 euro. so what makes the Titleist pro V1 different from others? well the Pro V1 has a high spin rate which means the ball will spin more which will make the ball stop more around the greens. The ball also has a soft shell which has a soft touch when you hit the ball with irons and wedges!!! But there is also a Pro V1X ball which has not as high of a spin rate, higher ball flight, less role out and also still has good control around the green but it doesn't have a softer shell then the Pro V1.

The Maintenance of a Golf Course

A golf course is only as good as the maintenance team who look after the course. The Maintenance team doesn't get a lot of credit for the work that they put into the course keeping it in good conditions for competitions, cutting grass, watering the course, cutting new holes for flags on the green.
The average wage for a maintenance person a year is $25,650 which is not a lot for such a long hour job. On the other hand a food and beverage manager gets a wage of $51,334 which is twice the amount that a maintenance person gets for taking care of the course.

As you can see from the video, it is very long hard working hours that they preform on the golf course. For such a short wage you have to love the job to be there everyday taking care of the golf course!!!

The Putting Green

The putting green is everyone's worst nightmare when it comes to golf, the small 8inc cup is a small target to put the ball into a hole using a putter. This is the make or brake part of your round the green can be as big as 40inc squared or in what ever shape. If you get the ball onto the green you can leave yourself with very difficult puts to make varying from all distances.

 

Another big influence to sinking your put is the contours on the green. You have to adjust where you are aiming on the green to allow for the slopes that will effect the movement of the ball. You can have an uphill put or a down hill put, sometimes you will have to hit the ball harder or softer to allow for the slope.

I recently got a putting green installed into my back garden. it took over 3 days to install!!! the putting green is made of astro which means it is for all weather conditions so I can practice when ever I want.



        The Golf Course

The Golf ball isn't the only thing you need to play golf, the golf course is the main object you need to play. different golf courses all over the world have different styles, parkland and lynx. A parkland golf course is an inland golf course not near the sea. This course cant be close to the sea. The course will have a lot of trees and can be flat or on a slope on a mountain. Each course has its own unique features such as a signature hole (EG, the 12th hole at druids glen which is a par 3 over water)

The golf course also consists of bunkers which consists of a large hole with sand in it as you can see in the image on the left. These bunkers are the worst obstacle that many golfers face on a golf course. This part of peoples game are what effect there scorecard from getting a par to a double bogey. The deeper the bunker the harder it is to get out of it. Sometimes the sand can be wet which means you want to try take less sand as if you take more the ball wont get out.
